post- post, class date: 9/7/11; written date: 9/9/11

In elementary school, we learn all about rocks- the different kinds, where they come from, how they're formed, etc. Weathering tends to consistently play a huge role.

A year or so ago, as I was making a new friend and doing what new friends do- telling my recent life stories- I said something decently ignorant-sounding to make up for my bitting humor, but still, it held much truth: "Hey, the weather weathers the rock.."

Because I figure that just as a rock is weathered, so are we. And of course there are more delicate sounding methods such as "pruning" or "cleansing," but, to an extent, each of us are as weathered as a rock.

Say a rock is because it was essentially "birthed" or cut off from a bigger boulder, cliff, mountain, etc. It stays where it lands either because it is stubborn and heavy, refusing to move. Or, that is merely the place where it is supposed to be. Some days are sunny with a breeze, comfortably warming the rock. And some days there is rain and gusts of wind, or even snow, making the rock learn to withstand the wet to dry to freezing and thawing. As some form of this occurs on a day to day basis, the rock- a life- is weathered. Learning patience and resilience, and never taking for granted the peace of a sunny day with a slight breeze.
